Fluid Dynamics
My intention for this ongoing series of black and white images is to capture the movement of water in abstract ways. To do so I am usually using shutter speeds of two seconds or less. Each of these images includes only water and the intricate and chaotic movement within. My goal is to capture the contrast in tones with particular attention to the relationship between the extreme ends of the gray scale. The darkest shadows reveal water in calm movement. While the brightest whites highlight kinetic interactions. The middle gray tones show the transitioning movement between smooth flow and confusion. I selected black and white processing to allow even the most subtle details to come through without the added context of color. I will continue to add to this body of work as the unique conditions needed to create these images affords itself.
